Wood wood wood (in Photoshop & Mudbox)

So... Today I made some wood!

Blog background
As you can see, I made a background for the blog. It's not just an edited picture, it's made from scratch!
I looked at these tutorials (Tutorial 1Tutorial 2) and did my own thing with it. Since it's a tileable texture, there is some painting and clone stamping in there too. It's not perfect yet, but I like it for now. :)

Mudbox
I'm just learning Mudbox (3D sculpting tool from Autodesk), and our assignment is to create something with damaged wood. In class we did a broken plank, this was my result:

Back home, I watched this short but nice tutorial:

I would really recommend it if you want to get started with Mudbox.

Now I made a post (pole? I don't know what the right word is) that we will hopefully be able to use for our level.

This doesn't have textures yet and I know nothing about lighting, materials and rendering in Mudbox, so this is just a simple screenshot from all sides, put together in Photoshop. It's not really good yet in my opinion, but for somebody who's just getting started, I don't think it's too bad. I'll just keep exercising! :)

While I was looking for the first tutorial, I just discovered this one:

Hmm, I'll try out that technique next time... :)

I really like working in Mudbox, I'll try to keep you up to date on what I'm doing in it and post the tutorials I found useful. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to leave a comment!

Greets,
Marcia
